Kill the Windows XP Language Bar for good!

by Jonathon on July 31st, 2009

The single biggest annoyance of Windows XP (for me, at least) is the language bar. Seems like every time I reboot it’s back. Here’s how to fix it:

To close the Language bar (using Classic view in Control Panel):

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
  2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
  3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
  4. Deselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

Thanks…seems that bar is a pain to more than just me. I had to shut the damn thing off years ago when I installed XP and haven’t had to do it again until now.
Much appreciated! Simple fix but hardly intuitive!! Nice job Microsoft!

    Thanks,
I reinstalled XP on an old laptop, and couldn’t remember how to kill it!

THANK YOU, I never use capital letters, that’s how big this is!

Thank you this has bothered me for years on dozens of machines. I should have hunted this down years ago.
